What is the difference between “Limited Tort” and “Full Tort”?

“Limited Tort” Option – Under Pennsylvania law, you have the option of purchasing insurance that limits your and your family’s ability to seek financial compensation for injuries caused by other drivers. You and other household members covered by the policy may seek reimbursement for all medical and other out-of-pocket expenses, but not for pain and suffering or other nonmonetary damages, unless the injuries sustained meet the policy’s definition of “serious injury” or one of several other exceptions.

“Full Tort” Option – The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania rules also allow you to choose a type of insurance that offers you and your family an unrestricted right to seek financial compensation for injuries caused by other drivers. Under this type of insurance, you and other household members covered by this policy may seek payment for any medical and other out-of-pocket expenses, as well as financial compensation for pain and suffering and other non-monetary damages as a result of injuries caused by other drivers.

What Exactly Is Collision Coverage, and How Does It Work?

Collision coverage is an auto insurance add-on that protects the policyholder’s vehicle in the event that they cause an accident. Collision insurance is frequently added to liability or comprehensive coverage for rental car drivers.

You may be forced to purchase collision insurance while renting a car (rental companies often refer to it as Loss Damage Waiver or a Collision Damage Waiver).

What exactly does “Comprehensive Coverage” imply?

Comprehensive coverage (sometimes referred to as “Other Than Collision”) is also referred to as “fire and theft” policy. A more accurate description is loss to your car caused by something other than an accident. Animal strikes, vandalism, riots, floods, wind and hail, as well as fire and theft, are all covered.

What is Extended Transportation Expense Coverage (Rental Reimbursement)?

You can seek rental reimbursement if your vehicle has at least Comprehensive coverage. If your vehicle is temporarily handicapped for more than a day due to a covered car accident, this policy will pay $25 per day for up to 30 days (or a maximum of $750) toward the purchase of a new vehicle. There are even stricter restrictions, such as a daily limit of up to $90 for up to 30 days, or no daily limit with a maximum of $1500. There are changes in coverage and limits between states. Consult your Policy Declaration to confirm your coverage limits.
