Seven people were injured in a machete fight at Twifo Abodom in the Central Region following an alleged attempt by a gentleman to steal someone’s girlfriend during a wake.
The fight pitted the youth of Twifo Abodom against their counterparts from Wassa Hemanso in the Western Region’s Wassa East District.
When the Twifo Abodom youth attended a vigil (wake-keeping) at Wassa Hemanso, a heated argument is said to have erupted between the two youth groups.
During the event, some Wassa Hemanso youth appeared out of nowhere and slapped a boy from Twifo Abodom who was dancing with his girlfriend.
The victim returned to Twifo Abodom in the Central region to report the assault on him to the youth in his town in preparation for a retaliatory attack.
On Sunday, April 2, 2023, the angry youth, numbering around 20, ambushed the Wassa Hemanso youth, resulting in a fight involving the use of a machete, sticks, and stones.
Both sides suffered casualties, with some suffering serious injuries and being taken to the Twifu Ateiku Health Centre for treatment.
The Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Police Command intervened and brought the two communities back together.
The police have since started looking into the incident.
