Police have detained a 40-year-old man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl at Anaji Queen of Peace near Takoradi.
The man, whose name was only revealed as Thomas and who worked as a mason, allegedly kept the small innocent girl in his chamber for six days while her parents looked for her.
According to accounts, the guy would lock the small girl in his room while he was away at work and let her out when he returned.
Confidence Fiadzo, the victim’s father, praised the police for their prompt intervention in apprehending the culprit in an interview with DAILY GUIDE.
He stated that he used to live in Mpatado with his children, including the 10-year-old daughter, and that they just relocated to the Anaji area.
He claimed that on Saturday, May 6, 2023, his 10-year-old daughter went to obtain water from a well at Anaji Queen of Peace, which is about a 10-minute walk from their new home and did not return.
He mentioned that when he realised his young daughter had not returned, he urged her older brothers to go look for her, but they were unable to locate her.
“They searched the entire area, including the well and all unfinished buildings, but they couldn’t find my daughter,” he added.
He then stated that he reported the case to the police, made several radio announcements, and posted her photo on social media.
According to Mr Fiadzo, a female neighbour of the suspect afterwards saw the little girl come out of the man’s room.
Because the man did not have a wife or children, the neighbour grew suspicious when she saw the small girl come out of his room. As a result, she reported the incident to the Anaji police.
The police arrived swiftly, rescued the girl, apprehended the culprit, and informed the girl’s father.
They later directed the father to take her daughter to the hospital for a checkup, where physicians confirmed that the suspect had sexually abused the child.
The suspect is presently supporting the investigation at the Kwesimintsim Police Station.
