Akufo-Addo pardons former Deputy National Security Coordinator

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has written to the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, requesting the release of Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, the former Deputy National Security Coordinator.

This follows a petition filed at the President’s Office by the Kpembe Traditional Area’s Paramount Chief, Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I.

According to the appeal, which was filed on Wednesday, July 26, Alhaji Mimina Osman is deserving of a presidential pardon due to his poor health and excellent attitude.

According to a response issued by the President’s Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, on Tuesday, August 1, President Akufo-Addo has exercised his prerogative of mercy in favour of the Deputy National Security Coordinator in the John Mahama administration and granted him mercy in accordance with Article 72(1)(a) of the 1992 Constitution.

“Kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the presidential pardon immediately,” the answer instructed the Interior Minister.

Alhaji Mimina Osman was one of three people found guilty of 14 various offences, including causing the state financial harm and violating the Public Procurement Act in the acquisition of surveillance equipment for the National Security Council Secretariat.

Alhaji Mimina Osman, a son of Kpembe, was sentenced to five years in prison by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour in 2020, along with two other National Communications Authority (NCA) board members, Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie and William Tetteh-Tevie.

The Accra High Court sentenced the three to a total of 16 years in jail with hard work.
