Asante Kotoko drawn against Kadiogo FC of Burkina Faso in CAF Champions League

Published

Communications and Brands Manager for Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko has blamed the club's poor run of form on the numerous injuries that have hampered the progress of the team. The defending league champions have been inconsistent in the domestic top flight, currently sitting in fifth place with 39 points after 26 games. Obeng Nyarko blamed his team's struggles on injury setbacks in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM. He stated that almost every player at Kotoko has been injured at some point and that the quality of the pitches used in the league can be a factor. The team's medical staff uses taping in every game to prevent injuries, which is costly, with the team spending nearly GHC5000 on taping their players in each match.

Asante Kotoko have been drawn against Rail Club du Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League.

Kotoko will play the first leg on the 9th to 11th of September 2022 in Ouagadougou at the Stade de Kadiogo against the four-time Burkinabe league champions and return to the Baba Yara Sports stadium on the 16th to 18th to seal qualification to the next round of the competition.

The winner of the tie will play against the winner of Gaborone versus AS Vita in either Botswana or DR Congo.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko is yet to begin pre-season as they fast-track preparations to travel to Turkey on Sunday to begin training ahead of the season.
