Baba Rahman will start for Reading in their Championship clash against Sunderland as football returns to England after a break to honour Queen Elizabeth II.
The weekend games were called off following the Queen’s death on Thursday, but they will resume in midweek with Reading hosting Sunderland at the Madejski Stadium.
Baba Rahman of Ghana will start the match after impressing as a substitute in the 2-1 victory over Stoke City on September 4.
Baba Rahman returned to Reading on August 31 and was thrown into the action four days later, producing a solid performance to help Reading claim their fifth win of the season.
Reading manager Paul Ince was so impressed with Baba Rahman’s performance that he has decided to put him in the starting lineup against Sunderland on Wednesday.
Rahman ensured that Stoke had no joy attacking from his side, with one crucial clearance, one interception, two important tackles, and winning three of three ground duels attempted, all while completing 71% of his passes.
The 28-year-old received a 6.9 rating from Sofascore, which is excellent considering he only played 21 minutes.
Reading are third in the table and will be hoping for promotion to the Premier League, which will help them in their desire to sign Rahman permanently.
Although it is a loan agreement, Reading intends to sign Rahman on a permanent basis next summer.
Rahman’s Chelsea contract expires in June 2024, and the Blues will not hesitate to sell him if the right offer comes in.
