Bashir Hayford explains why he sat at the middle of the park in Bechem
Bashir Hayford, the head coach of the Hearts of Oak Lions, delayed his team’s game against Bechem United on Saturday by sitting in the centre of the pitch due to biassed officiating.
During the game at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Hayford took a seat in the centre of the pitch, forcing a 20-minute stoppage in play.
The legendary Ghanaian trainer’s actions were in protest of what was described as one-sided officiating.
“The spectators threw urine and insulted me and the players. We needed to protect ourselves, so we raced to the pitch, but to be honest, I responded to them,” he told Akoma FM.
“As a 30-year lover of the game, I had never seen anything like this before. It was more like a fight than a football match.”
Following a brief break, Hayford left the field, allowing the game to resume. Despite playing with one man down, Bechem averted a loss on the day.
The draw drops Lions into the relegation zone, three points below Bofoakwa Tano, who sits above it.

“We deserved to win” – Kotoko’s coach following Chelsea defeat
Asante Kotoko’s coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, feels his club did not deserve to lose to Berekum Chelsea.
On Matchday 30, the Porcupine Warriors lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Golden City Park.
Steven Mukwala gave Kotoko the lead, but Stephen Amankona equalised for the home side, bringing the first half to a draw.
Samuel Boadu’s squad sealed the victory late in the second half with a goal from Mezack Afriyie.
After the match, Narteh Ogum voiced his unhappiness over lost opportunities.
“We deserved to win.” We played better and had some good opportunities that we might have taken, but you saw it,” he explained.
“I do not wish to mention that person’s name. Intimidation, that is all,” he said.
However, Asante Kotoko will look to return to winning ways when they meet rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium next weekend on Matchday 31.
The setback drops the Reds to 11th place in the league table, with 40 points.

Bofoakwa Tano bent on staying in the league than winning FA Cup
Alexander Ababio, Chief Executive Officer of Tano Bofoakwa, has emphasised the importance of remaining in the Ghana Premier League, indicating that he prioritises this over winning the MTN FA Cup and competing in the CAF Interclub tournament.
The Sunyani-based team is positioned 11th in the league, just one point ahead of FA Cup reigning winners Dreams FC, who have four outstanding games owing to their involvement in the MTN FA Cup.
In an exclusive chat with Citi Sports, Ababio emphasised the importance of winning the remaining matches to preserve their standing in the Ghana Premier League.
“Right now, if I had to pick, I would choose to stay in the league for the time being, but all that aside, we prepare match by match. We’re striving to earn and keep premier league status; that’s our ultimate goal right now.”
“With Nsoatreman, I aim to overcome them. Since joining the Premiership, we have played two matches, both of which resulted in draws. Though we beat Dreams FC, we will not be satisfied that we were able to remove them.”
This is going to be a local derby, and we’ll be ready to win.”
The 2023/24 MTN FA Cup final will take place on June 23, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium. Bofoakwa Tano’s next Ghana Premier League game will be against Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi.

We are ready to play in the CAF Confederation Cup- Nsoatreman General Manager
Nsoatreman Football Club General Manager Eric Alagidede thinks his squad is prepared to play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
He mentioned this in an exclusive interview with CITI TV’s Football Made In Ghana, following his team’s qualification for the 2024 MTN FA Cup Final.
Nsoatreman defeated Legon Cities 2-1 in the semifinals at WAFA Park in Sogakope, setting up a final against crosstown foe Bofoakwa Tano.
The final took place on June 23 at the University of Ghana Stadium, with the winner qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking of the final, Nsoatreman’s GM expressed confidence in his team’s fitness to compete on the African terrain, noting,
“We’re ready. Once we reach the final, we want to win and travel to Africa. When given the opportunity, we will compete in the Africa tournament and do well. It’s difficult to play the final in Accra, but we don’t have a choice.”
“During our (Division One) playoff game against Tamale City FC, we transported around 30 fans to Accra in buses. So, in a same vein, we will organise extra buses to bring more fans and increase the lads’ support.”
