According to Patrick Akoto, Administrator of Medeama Sporting Club, the club’s home game in the first round of the 2023-2023 CAF Champions League campaign would be placed at the Cape Coast Stadium.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, he stated that the Tarkwa-based club is preparing to play in Africa’s premier club championship for the first time in its existence.
Medeama played in the CAF Confederation Cup but did not go past the group round. The Mauve and Yellow team, on the other hand, won the BetPawa Ghana Premier League and qualified for the Champions League.
TNA Stadium in Medeama is nearing completion but will not be ready for the game; however, according to Patrick Akoto, the 10,000-seater structure will be ready to host the following games in the competition should Medeama make a long run.
“We are happy to bring Champions League football to Tarkwa. It’s just unfortunate that we won’t be able to play the first match in Tarkwa due to the fact that the timeline for the completion of the facility doesn’t tally with the start of the competition.
Hopefully, if we are able to negotiate our way through the first match, hopefully we will be able to return home and play the subsequent games.”
