Patapaa has said that persons working overseas in jobs that are frowned upon in Ghana make more money than even local music stars.
The performer appeared on Accra FM on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
When Patapaa travels outside the nation, according to host Nana Romeo, he undertakes menial occupations such as vehicle washing.
“Let them send you a video to verify,” Patapaa said in response.
He claims he sleeps so much that it disturbs his management, but his reaction is always, “I rise only to go play a programme.”
“Excuse me to say an artiste who is a star [in Ghana] and throws their weight around does not earn or have the same opportunities as a car wash worker in America,” he said, sitting up.
He went on to say that persons who wash cars “in America, the United Kingdom, or Germany” had it better “in terms of money and life in general than an artiste in Ghana.”
“When we Ghanaians become stars, we become pompous and disrespectful.” “When we see others, we think we’re bigger than them,” he grumbled, urging people to “travel and see.”
Local artists who “have better jobs” and want nothing to do with music are common, he claims, abroad.
“They even get upset when you mention music because the money they’d make in seconds would be more than a week, two weeks, or a month’s worth of an artiste’s work here in Ghana,” he claimed.
In light of the dialogue, he declined to remark on Stonebwoy and his likes, adding, “Stonebwoy is my boss, so let’s not bring him into this.”
Patapaa stated that it is essential for artists who travel to “outside countries to get some work behind [besides] your music.”
He observed that the only task to which one should not add another is priest work.
Patapaa’s international recognition grew as a result of the success of his One Corner song and Scopatomana catchphrase.
