Carlos Mencia was born on October 22, 1967, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, as Ned Arnel Mencia. He grew raised in East Los Angeles, California, in a Roman Catholic family as the second-youngest of 18 children. Carlos was born in Mexico to Magdalena Menca and Roberto Holness but was raised by his aunt and uncle, Consuelo and Pablo Mencia. Mencia went to Garfield High School and, at the age of 19, he sold narcotics and burglarized a residence. Carlos enrolled at California State University to study electrical engineering after graduating from high school, but he left out to pursue a comedic career following a successful open mic performance at The Laugh Factory.
Personal Life
Carlos married Amy in December 2003, and the pair welcomed their first child, Lucas, on December 14, 2006. Joe Rogan openly accused Mencia of copying jokes from various comics in 2005, and in February 2007, he confronted Carlos on stage at West Hollywood’s legendary Comedy Store. George Lopez said that Mencia stole 13 minutes of his stuff for one of his HBO specials, and he told Howard Stern that he once punched Carlos over it. Mencia has also been accused of stealing a Bill Cosby performance for his “No Strings Attached” special, although Carlos claimed that he had never watched “Bill Cosby: Himself,” the film in which the routine was included.
Mencia stated in 2011 that he sought counselling as a result of the plagiarism allegations. He was supposed to march in the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade in 2009, however, he was dropped due to “certain remarks Mr. Carlos Mencia has made in regards to New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina.”
Carlos and Amy spent $4.3 million for a property in Los Angeles’ Encino neighbourhood in October 2009. Eddie Cibrian, the actor, was the seller. The 9,000-square-foot mansion has eight bedrooms and five bathrooms, as well as a home theatre, wet bar and six-car garage.
