Asante Kotoko has announced that the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has granted a provisional measure for ‘troubled’ Richmond Lamptey who is currently serving a 30-month ban imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

It will be recalled that Richmond Lamptey was cited in a ruling by the GFA Disciplinary Committee (DC) to have played a major role in a match-fixing allegation involving Ashanti Gold and his former club, Inter Allies in which the match ended seven goals to nil in favour of the Miners.

However, Asante Kotoko through its legal team filed for an appeal at the football governing body through the Appeals Committee which the committee upheld the initial ruling of the DC.

It is in light of this that Kotoko as per the judicial process to seek redress, filed a case at CAS to overturn the ruling of the DC.

In a Twitter post on Friday afternoon, the Kumasi-based royal club noted that club lawyer, Nilo Effori have successfully secured a stay of execution which gives Richmond Lamptey the license to continue with his career as a professional footballer.

Meanwhile, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana earlier this week secured a stay of execution for 21 players who were also banned by the DC following their involvement in the same match-fixing scandal which rocked the football association.
