The Young Money trio of Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne reunited at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto on Saturday night, commemorating the label that started it all. The evening’s Young Money Reunion show was originally scheduled for Aug. 1 as part of October World Weekend but was delayed a few days Drake tested positive for COVID -19.

Before he welcomed his Young Money counterparts on stage, Drake performed a few of his newer songs and addressed some criticism about his latest dance-heavy album “Honestly, Nevermind.”

“[The album] is one of the greatest things I ever did. I like to challenge myself, you know But I had a lot of people like hitting me up like, ‘You know, that shit’s too fast, I don’t know… you makin’ like Zara music,” he explained, referencing memes and critics comparing the album to the music that plays in the retailer’s dressing rooms.

“And I said, ‘Would you like me to slow it down? Do you want the old Drake? That’s all you gotta say,” as he started to sing a piano rendition of “A Keeper.”

All three acts had their own solo performance time. Drake and Minaj performed “Moment 4 Life” and “Up All Night” together, while Wayne and Drake bounced between verses for “The Motto” and “Every Girl.” The trio also gave a performance of their wildly popular “Bedrock.”

Complex quoted Drake’s emotional speech dedicated to Young Money label founder Wayne, whom he called “the greatest rapper of all time.”

“I would go to the ends of the earth for this man,” he said. “You changed my fucking life and you changed the city forever.”

To close the reunion show, Wayne announced that his album “Tha Carter VI” is “coming soon,” displaying  the title in gigantic letters onstage. The album — which reportedly has been in development since 2020 — serves as the follow-up to 2018’s “Tha Carter V.”

It was a social experiment - Edem finally reveals the content of his NDC/NPP campaign posters

Ghanaian rapper Edem has finally revealed the reason for his posts after leaving social media users in the dark with two different campaign posters for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the National Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Edem, his campaign posts were a social experiment to see what would happen if he did the following;

1. Are Ghanaians tolerant of opposing political viewpoints, and do news organisations verify facts before publishing them?
2. Are people excited to see more young people enter politics?
3. How do members of different political parties react to one another?

4. Do people’s political beliefs shape their attitudes, behaviours, and decisions?

5. How do intolerance, bias, and prejudice affect people and their interactions with others who hold opposing political views?

In addition, the award-winning rapper urged “followers of both Parties to use the same energy to support creatives on social media.”

On Tuesday, March 21, the rapper shared a political campaign poster featuring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) logo, announcing a major announcement.

He captioned the poster, “Big announcement tomorrow at 4 pm.”

Edem’s post drew both positive and negative reactions from colleagues and social media users who were convinced he was about to announce his candidature for parliament on the NDC ticket.

In an odd turn of events, Edem shared another political poster with the ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) logo on Wednesday, March 22.

“4 p.m., I take a stand,” he captioned another poster.

Before I participate in the scheme, VGMA must come and see me - Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale, the biggest dancehall musician in Ghana, has stated that he will only participate in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards scheme if the organisers make a move first.

According to him, the board should take a “kinder approach” so that both parties can negotiate and reach an agreement so that he can join the show.

Shatta Wale stated on Hitz FM’s U Say Wetin show, “VGMA is my ex-girlfriend, anytime they want to come back, I am here.” I believe they should take a nice approach because they are the ones organising this.”

The ‘On God’ singer told Hitz FM’s Prince Tsegah that “they should also find someone from the office to come and invite me to come on board, and it will be beautiful.”

When asked if he is extending an invitation to organisers he answered, “we should take this like that… We must realise that “united we stand, divided we fall.”

“I don’t have VGMA in my heart, and I don’t have any enemies there,” he continued. Simply put, things happen, and we move on.”

It will be remembered that in 2019, VGMA barred Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy from the scheme following a scuffle that marred the show’s 20th anniversary.

However, the ban was lifted in 2021, and Stonebwoy has been a part of the scheme since 2022. Shatta Wale, on the other hand, has yet to join the scheme.

Meanwhile, Charter House, the organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), has released the complete list of the 24 nominees of the various categories for the VGMA.

The categories were announced on March 18, 2023, on the award scheme’s various social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the award will be presented on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

I'll Win Best Rapper Of The Year At The VGMAs Again - Lyrical Joe

Lyrical Joe, a Ghanaian rapper, is not resting on his laurels as he prepares to win the Best Rap Performance award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for the second time.
Last year, the rapper beat out Sarkodie, Strongman, Amerado, Lyrical Joe, Obibini, and Teephlow for the position.

He was nominated again this year in the same category as TeePhlow, Strongman, Amerado, Sarkodie, and Medikal.

Lyrical Joe, who recently released his debut album titled ‘Photo Album,’ told Joy FM’s ‘Showbiz A-Z’ host Kwame Dadzie about his excitement at being nominated for the 2023 edition of the awards.

When asked if he’d win again, he said, “Oh yes.”

Lyrical Joe has received numerous accolades both locally and internationally as one of Ghana’s best rappers.

He went after Cameroonian rapper Jovi and Sierra Leonean Mc Kao Denero in 2020. Following the beef, he gained a large following and admiration.

His recent battle with rapper Amerado has also increased his visibility in the music industry.

For the past six years, he has released a rap song on his birthday, August 5th.
