Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has explained why he opted to play international football for England rather than Ghana.
He mentioned this at a news conference on Saturday, September 9, ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine.
Nketiah addressed the media for the first time as an England international after being called up to the Lions at the senior level for the first time.
Nketiah, who is of Ghanaian origin through his parents, was eligible to play for the Black Stars but chose to represent his native nation owing to what he characterised as a logical career development.
“Once the (England) offer was on the table, it was really hard to turn down. It’s something which what I felt was obviously a natural progression for myself at this stage and I felt now is a good time to kind of make that step so obviously am really happy to be here and proud to be here. Hopefully, I can help the team this weekend and go on and get some caps.”
Nketiah, 24, has two goals in five appearances for Arsenal this season in all competitions.
