The communications director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has disclosed that plans are far advanced for the implementation of a minimum wage for players who ply their trade in the country.
In an interview on Angel TV’s Abomu Sports, hosted by Esther Abankwa, Henry intimated that the decision was taken at the executive council meeting on the 28th of June.
“They (exco) took a decision to introduce a standard contract for all clubs whereby the start date and end dates will be the same. In that same meeting the exco resloved that an introduction of a minimum wage will also be introduced depending on the clubs’ financial capacity,” he noted.
However, Henry was quick to note that these decisions will be communicated to the clubs and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) before its implementation in order not to create dissatisfaction.
“We’ve had a meeting with the leadersip of PFAG for an intial discussion and after that, the plan is to meet the clubs to official communicate the decision of the exco because we can’t implement anything without considering their challenges,” he added.
Meanwhile, the premier league is scheduled to begin in September as clubs have intensified pre-season training ahead of the 2022/23 season.
