Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, better known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes the Black Stars would compete in the World Cup finals if the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is elected President.
According to him, Dr Bawumia’s vision for sports resulted in the construction of more than 180 astroturfs around the country.
He further stated that if Dr Bawumia is elected President of the West African nation, the national team will reach the World Cup finals.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a doer. He intends to generate jobs for the youth. “He is the driving force behind NABCO, which was created to help alleviate youth unemployment,” said the outspoken lawmaker in an exclusive interview with Adom FM.
“It’s almost as if there are astroturfs in every district; when we came to power, there were only two, but now there are about 180 nationwide.”
He [Bawumia] adores sports and will go to any length to improve them, and I am convinced that under his direction, we will have the finest World Cup ever. We will reach the World Cup final under his supervision; he will do sporting miracles,” Chairman Wontumi assured programme presenter Kobby Stonne.
After beating Kennedy Agyapong and two other candidates in their primary, Dr. Bawumia will head the NPP in the 2024 elections.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign later this month against Madagascar and Comoros.
