Honour Asamoah Gyan with his last wish – Christian Atsu

Former Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu has called on the Ghana Football Association to honour Asamoah Gyan’s last wish of playing in the 2022 World Cup scheduled for November this year in Qatar.

Asamoah Gyan in an interview intimated his wish to make amends for breaking the heart of many Ghanaians during the 2010 World Cup where he missed a crucial last-minute penalty against Uruguay.

In an interview with BBC’s John Bennett, Gyan admitted he is not fully fit at the moment and is working hard to be in a good shape.

“Anything can happen, it has happened before back in 1994 when Roger Milla came back from retirement to play in the World Cup,” he said.

”But I haven’t retired yet, I haven’t announced my retirement, I have been out for almost two years now due to injuries and my body shutting down.

“I just need to get my body back in shape, so I have started training of course and I’ll see how my body reacts to playing competitive football.

“Talent-wise, everything is there already, so I just have to prepare physically and then we’ll see what happens.”

It is in light of this that Christian Atsu has begun an advocacy, calling on the football governing body to grant the all-time topscorer of Ghana his last wish to redeem himself against Uruguay who eventually knocked out Ghana in the quarter-finals to deny the west-African country from making history as the first African side of making it to the semi-finals of the Mundial.

Meanwhile, Asamoah has been inactive for the past two years and has started taking badges to become a coach when he finally hangs his boot
