Former FIFA U-20 World Cup goal king, Ebenezer Assifuah has intimated that he gets sad anytime he sees Paul Pogba, Samuel Umtiti and his other contemporaries dominating the headlines of football.

According to Assifuah, national team managers failed to groom them after winning Bronze at the U-20 World Cup in Turkey, in 2013, whereas the likes of Pogba and Umtiti were given the chance to develop with the France national team.

“I feel so sad when I see the likes of Pogba, Umtiti, and the rest. Because we all played on one stage during the FIFA U20 tournament in Turkey 2013. The difference between them and us is that their country saw what they can do and groomed them.

Now they are all World cup winners and still playing. But for us the moment we couldn’t win the tournament that was it. I won the golden boot, but  now am not useful to my country. I got a few call ups to the Black Stars but wasn’t getting much playing time. I’m still playing and doing my best as a footballer,” he told Original FM.

Ebenezer Assifuah formerly played for Accra-based Liberty Professionals and currently plies his trade for Ligue 2 club, Pau in France
