Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited, has claimed that he will return to the Ghana Police and reclaim the GH2.5 million that was delivered to them for distribution to clients.
He said that the police department was not required to deposit the funds with the Bank of Ghana.
“The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money,” he said in an interview on Starr FM.
“I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had,” Nana Appiah Mensah added.
On the recommendation of the Attorney-General, the police collected GH2.5 million from Nana Appiah Mensah, better known as Nam 1, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
According to a statement issued by the Police administration on Tuesday, October 24, the aforementioned sum has been placed in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the notice of the Court.
According to the police, the money is part of an investigation into petitions filed by clients of MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited against Nana Appiah Mensah in the Accra High Court.
“We would like to state that the decision on the disbursement of the money would be determined by the court,” the statement concluded.
It is unclear whether the police would comply with Nana Appiah Mensah’s request and return the money to him.
