Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister, has announced that the Information Services Department (ISD) has received cash to purchase new vehicles.
According to him, the ISD, an 80-year-old organisation, has effectively undertaken a restructuring process that has resulted in the establishment of numerous departments dedicated to government service.
He told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen’s Osei Bonsu on Monday that the department has employed Public Relations Officers (PROs) to represent public institutions, meet information requirements, and respond to concerns in a timely manner.
“The allocation of funds to the ISD for the purchase of new vans represents an important milestone in the evolution of our 80-year-old institution.” The ISD has seen a tremendous transition throughout the years, reforming into numerous parts to better serve the government. “We have dedicated public relations officers who play an important role in communicating with the public and addressing their concerns,” he added.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah explained why the newly allotted money was necessary.
“The purchase of 40 vans will aid in the dissemination of public projects.” These vans will be carefully deployed at regional levels to make public announcements and provide educational outreach to regular Ghanaians. Regional information officers will be in charge of preparing and deploying the vans in their respective regions,” he said.
The vans that will be dispatched to the areas, in his opinion, will not be utilised for public education because their concentration is on true public education and awareness.
