Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has informed Ghana about Mali’s potential in the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana was drawn among Madagascar, Comoros, Chad, and Central African Republic in the draw for African qualifiers held a few weeks ago.
While the draw looks to suit Ghana because none of their opponents have previously participated in a World Cup, the Black Stars have been warned to prepare appropriately to avoid embarrassment from such minnows.
According to Paintsil, one of the countries that might pose a challenge to Ghana is Mali, who confesses how difficult it could be to face the Eagles.
Mali, he claims, were one of the toughest teams he faced while wearing the Black Stars uniform.
“Mali is a difficult side; they are one of the football countries I was never comfortable playing against during my career,” he told Graphic Sports.
He did, however, express confidence in the Black Stars, hinting that they might use their expertise to easily defeat the Malians.
“Our boys are experienced enough; so, if Mali is going to use young players, then I think it will benefit us because in football, without experience you can’t make it.
“You need both young and experienced players to have a strong team,” he added.
Paintsil represented Ghana in two World Cups, in 2006 and 2010.
