Abdul Karim Zito, Head Coach of the Black Starlets, feels that Ghana’s road to football glory is dependent on the characteristics of patience and tenacity.
Zito, who led the squad to success in the 2021 U-20 AFCON, emphasises the importance of these traits in developing Ghana’s national teams’ future.
Zito honestly shared his concerns about Ghana’s football identity in an enlightening interview with Citi Sports following the release of Ghana’s Football DNA.
The nation’s football essence, once regarded as the “Brazilians of Africa” for their peculiar “agoro” style of play, looked to have lost its way over time.
“Previously, they used to say [Ghana is] the Brazil of Africa. Why? Because of the “agoro” type of the game.
And now, we are no more Brazilians because our identity is lost.
Now we have brought it back because all of us were consulted.
We need the passion and the persistence to chase this book and then to diagnose it to the young ones.
So that by the time they reach the higher stage, the game will change and then everybody will enjoy how Ghanaians play.”
As Ghana’s football adventure progresses, the route to greatness necessitates hard work and patience.
With youthful talents being developed, football fans throughout the world are looking forward to the “Brazilians of Africa” revival on the greatest stages of the beautiful game.
