Korle-Bu’s renal unit to open on Monday, November 6

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minority's health spokesperson, blasted the Health Minister for failing to execute his instructions on the reopening of the facility. Since the kidney facility closed in May 2023 owing to a GH4 million debt, 19 outpatients have died.

Following a meeting on Friday, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital unanimously agreed that the Renal Dialysis Unit’s outpatient section will open on Monday, November 6.

Since May 22, 2023, the facility has been closed to outpatients, requiring patients to seek dialysis services elsewhere, primarily in private hospitals or institutions.

The Unit reopened partially on Wednesday, September 27, with a notice of an increase in dialysis treatment each session from GH380 to GHS765.42.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, asked the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday to reopen the facility as soon as possible, but inspections on Friday morning revealed that it was still closed for outpatient services.
