Wilberforce Mfum, a Kotoko icon, has urged club officials to bring in a new group of quality players if the team is to reclaim its former glory.
Last season, the Porcupine Warriors finished fourth in the Ghana Premier League and were eliminated from the CAF Champions League and the FA Cup.
At the end of the season, the club’s board and administration were both disbanded, leading the club’s life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to meet with stakeholders to discuss the club’s future.
It was determined that the squad would immediately begin recruiting players for the following season, with former Back Stars coach Kwesi Appiah in charge of the process.
Mfum, who played for Kotoko in the 1960s, has thus urged that the present team be sacked in order for stronger players to be recruited.
According to him, the players lack fundamental football skills and must depart.
“Those who are present are all rusted-to-death players (Aweawufuo).” They should release all of them and sign new ones, and if we want new ones, we must pay for them. Otumfuo stated that he will give Kotoko money to get started, therefore we are keeping an eye on him.”
“Coaches will teach you, but when you step onto the pitch, you must apply your knowledge because the coach will not be present.”
“Today’s players, the most of them do not have a working head; they will miss obvious goalscoring opportunities “Me and you.” Just be patient with the youngsters; Kotoko will be fantastic.” On Kessben TV, Wilberforce Mfum said
