Communications and Brands Manager for Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko has blamed the club's poor run of form on the numerous injuries that have hampered the progress of the team. The defending league champions have been inconsistent in the domestic top flight, currently sitting in fifth place with 39 points after 26 games. Obeng Nyarko blamed his team's struggles on injury setbacks in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM. He stated that almost every player at Kotoko has been injured at some point and that the quality of the pitches used in the league can be a factor. The defending league champions have been inconsistent in the domestic top flight, currently sitting in fifth place with 39 points after 26 games.

Obeng Nyarko blamed his team’s struggles on injury setbacks in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM.

He stated that almost every player at Kotoko has been injured at some point and that the quality of the pitches used in the league can be a factor.

The team’s medical staff uses taping in every game to prevent injuries, which is costly, with the team spending nearly GHC5000 on taping their players in each match.

“Our season has really been hampered by injuries, almost every single player at Kotoko has faced an injury or two. A lot of factors lead to this injury situation in our league, sometimes the quality of the pitches we use, let’s be frank with ourselves, these are injury-prone pitches because ideally, the pitches need to be watered before games because some of the pitches are very hard, Muntari even complained”

“In order to prevent injuries our medical team resorted to taping, they use to tape players in every game. Those tapes are very expensive and I can tell you that, in every game we spend almost GHC5000 on taping our players, just to avoid injuries. In fact, injuries have really worried us” he said.

On Sunday, Asante Kotoko will face Aduana Stars in Ghana Premier League matchday 27 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

King Faisal relegated from Ghana Premier League

King Faisal has been relegated from the betPawa Premier League and will play in Division One.

Their relegation was sealed when Karela United defeated Bibiani GoldStars 3-2 at the Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park.

With one game left in the season, King Faisal’s destiny is determined, since they will finish no higher than 16th, regardless of the results of the last matches.

King Faisal is currently in 17th position with 39 points, three points behind Tamale City, who is narrowly outside the relegation zone.

If King Faisal wins their final game of the season and Tamale City loses, they will have equaled Tamale City’s point total. However, owing to their weaker head-to-head record against Tamale City this season (a 4-1 advantage for Tamale City), King Faisal would be unable to finish ahead of them.

King Faisal joins Kotoku Royals as the second Premier League team to be demoted this season.

On the last day of the season, the final relegation position will be determined. Hearts of Oak, Karela United, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, Tamale City, and Great Olympics are all fighting for survival.
