Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and flagbearer candidate in the recently concluded presidential election, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work together to give the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a run for its money in the 2024 elections.
He also promised to collaborate with NPP members to disrupt the eight-year cycle.
Mr. Agyapong, who stated before and during voting that if the polls were manipulated, termed the elections as “fair.”
Accepting the findings of the Electoral Commission (EC) and congratulating the presidential primary winner, the MP thanked his campaign staff for their arduous work.
“Today is a fantastic day. I feel the party has been honest and open. That’s the one thing I’ve previously preached. And, I must say, this election is fair, and my constituents have spoken. As a result, I accept the outcomes in good faith. I vow my support for our persistent efforts to break the eight. We are here, party members; let us put everything behind us and unify this party. I believe we can break the eight with unity. I can guarantee you that the showdown is now being translated for 2024. We must get together and give the NDC a showdown. I want to thank my staff for their hard work and the party supporters who believed in us.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President, won the presidential primary, putting him on a collision course with former President and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama in the general election in 2024.
Dr. Bawumia beat three other contenders, including Kennedy Agyapong, the outspoken Assin Central MP; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister for Agriculture; and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former Mampong MP.
Dr. Bawumia received 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the vote, while Mr. Agyapong received 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%, according to certified results announced by Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.
