If he wins the 2024 elections, National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has promised the people of Techiman South a prompt probe into the 2020 election violence.
During the 2020 elections, a shooting incident resulted in two deaths and six injuries in the constituency.
During a visit to the Bono East Region as part of the “Building Ghana We Want” trip, Mahama criticised the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia governments for allegedly neglecting to hold those responsible for the election killings accountable.
He promised that if the NDC wins the 2019 elections, he will launch a comprehensive inquiry and prosecute all parties implicated.
In addition, John Mahama informed the people that if the NDC takes power, they will prioritise justice for all victims and their families in similar cases.
“We are all aware of what occurred here in 2020, which resulted in the deaths of three of our people.” When elected president of a country, you must be president for everybody. Since the tragedy occurred here, the president and his appointees have neglected to apologise.
“When a similar incident occurred in Ejura, there was a commission of inquiry and people were compensated, but Techiman was ignored.” That is why, if elected president, I will conduct an investigation into what occurred here and guarantee that those found responsible are punished and the right thing is done.”
