NPP majority leader Kyei Mensah Bonsu has urged Ghanaians to be patient with Black Stars coach Chris Houghton.
In an interview with Sunyani’s Sompa FM, the senior politician stated, “Honestly, I haven’t been able to watch any of Ghana’s last four matches, so I’m not in a good position to judge the team’s performance.”
“However, if you are building a team and expecting immediate results, it will harm the team,” Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated.
He goes on to say, “In 1990 when Dutch manager Clemens Westerhof was charged to rebuild the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria, he initially struggled with fans even calling for his sack at some point but with patience, Nigeria went to the 1990 AFCON finals losing narrowly to Algeria, the host, to whom they have already been beaten 5-1 in their first match”
The wise statesman asked the country to allow Chris Houghton time to resurrect the Black Stars.

He went on to say, “We need new faces hence the old ones that are not performing ought to be kicked out since rebuilding is done with new players” .
“In Europe, if you do not have a team, it will be very difficult to play for any national team” , he added.
“We should be very serious with ourselves,” Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated, “it’s very uninspiring to see clubless players getting call-ups.”
Ghana will face Madagascar and Comoros in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on November 17th and 21st.
