Man dies over ₵2 fare increment after fighting driver’s mate

A man in his thirties was confirmed dead after a fight with a commercial driver’s mate over a GH2 fare increase.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, at the Lapaz bus terminal.

According to reports, the male passenger boarded the vehicle from Lapaz bound for Pokuase and was informed that the fare had been raised from GH5.50 to GH7.70.

After several disputes among the passengers about the new fare, calm was restored.

According to JoyNews sources, the deceased refused to pay the new fare and continued to complain. This enraged the driver, who decided to take the passengers back to the Lapaz bus terminal, where he had picked them up.

An eyewitness told myjoyonline.com that the driver, his mate, and their colleagues at the bus terminal forced all passengers to disembark from the vehicle, but the victim refused.

According to the eyewitness, this resulted in a fight at the bus terminal between the deceased, the driver, his mate, and others.

According to the eyewitness, the deceased was punched while exchanging blows. He fell and hit his head on the pavement, resulting in his death.

His body was later deposited at the morgue.

The Police Department is yet to comment on the matter.
