According to the Athletic, West Ham United’s £20 million bid for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire has been rejected.
West Ham manager David Moyes wants to get Maguire, but the possible deal is complicated by the player’s high salary and doubts about his readiness to depart.
The financial side of Maguire’s wage might cause problems for the Europa Conference League winners, making a second offer improbable.
Maguire’s status at Manchester United has dwindled under manager Erik ten Hag, with only 16 Premier League appearances last season, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof favoured in central defence. Ten Hag also deprived the 30-year-old of his United captaincy ahead of the new season.
Despite his limited playing time, Maguire, whose contract with Manchester United expires in 2025, has stated his determination to stay and battle for a spot in the team. Meanwhile, the club is looking to sell several players this summer in order to raise finances for possible reinforcements.
