Mercy Chinwo, a Nigerian gospel singer, has threatened to sue a secular musician for using her name in a song.
Obidiz, writing to the musician through her lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi, stated that the song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’ contains disparaging and derogatory lyrics with which she does not want to be associated.
According to the lawyer, Mercy Chinwo was shocked to learn about the song and its content.
If Obidiz does not remove the music from all digital streaming platforms, the gospel singer has threatened to sue for $2 billion.
She is demanding that Obidiz “take down or cause the song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’ which you published or be removed immediately from all music digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and any other platform whereby you made such publication.”
Mercy Chinwo also demanded that the musician stop using her name, image, or likeness in his content.
The gospel singer’s attorney told Obidiz that failure to comply with his client’s demands would result in “the full machinery of the law being set in motion against you, including approaching the Court of Law to award damages against you to the tune of N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) in favour of our client.”
