Milovan Rajevac and all foreign Black Stars Coaches are clueless – Derek Boateng

Milovan Rajevac and all foreign Black Stars Coaches are clueless - Derek Boateng

Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has refused to give former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac credit for the team’s achievements during his tenure.

In an interview with Enoch Worlanyo Wallace on Accra-based Asempa FM, the former Getafe midfielder vehemently opined that the Serbian coach was clueless, claiming that the coach arrived when the national team had quality players.

“All of the foreign coaches we had during our time with the Black Stars, including Milovan Rajevac, were clueless.” To be honest, we had a great team. During the 2010 World Cup, I, Stephen Appiah, Quincy Owusu Abayie, Sulley Muntari, and other top players were on the bench, which speaks volumes about the calibre of our team. We were playing in top clubs and leagues at the time, so Milovan Rajevac and other foreign coaches didn’t do anything extraordinary”.

“We trained as if we were playing a match, and every player worked hard to get into the starting lineup.” Looking at the squad, there was serious competition in the team, and those foreign coaches did nothing for me,” he said.

The Serbian coach made history when he led the Black Stars to the World Cup quarterfinals in South Africa in 2010.

He had led Ghana to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Angola, where they were defeated by Egypt.

Between 2008 and 2010, Rajevac coached Ghana. He was reappointed last year but did not perform well in his second stint with the national team.

Following the Black Stars’ underwhelming performance at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, the 67-year-old was shown the door.
