NAM1 gave police GH¢2.5 million not GH¢5 million – Godfred Dame

However, in response to inquiries on the floor of Parliament, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, revealed that only GH2.5 million, rather than the stated GH5 million, was received from NAM1.

The government has refuted assertions made by the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as NAM1, that he deposited GH5 million with the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement, NAM1 stated that on October 20, GH5 million was handed up to the Ghana Police Service to be dispersed to consumers of the bankrupt corporation.

He emphasised that the funds were intended to be handed to consumers who successfully completed the company’s verification procedure, which included a GH2.5 million judgment debt.

However, in response to inquiries on the floor of Parliament, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, revealed that only GH2.5 million, rather than the stated GH5 million, was received from NAM1.

“The record I have before me indicates that an amount of GH¢2.5 million was paid, so the claim of GH¢5 million having been paid to the Ghana Police Service is untrue. It was only GH¢2.5 million that was paid to the Ghana Police Service by the accused person.”

Customers who were dissatisfied with the company’s suspension of operations in 2018 have been clamouring for the return of their monies. Since then, the firm has been accused of operating a Ponzi scam.

Nana Appiah Mensah, better known as NAM1, is presently facing fraud charges.
