Okada rider sentenced to 23 years in prison for robbing and raping his passenger

The Tema Circuit Court B sentenced Louis Dordzi Dzidefo, 28, to 23 years in prison with hard labour for robbing and raping a woman.

Dzidefo was sentenced by the Court presided over by Ms Bertha Aniagyei after a full trial following his plea of not guilty to the charge of robbery when he first appeared in court.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Stella Odame, stated that the complainant lived in Kakasunanka Number One, while the convict, also known as D-claim, lived in Gbetsele.

She stated that on July 13, 2021, at approximately 00:00 hours, the complainant hired Dzidefo, who was in charge of a Haojue motorbike with registration number M-21-GR 1955, to transport her from Kakasunaka Number One to Golf City.

According to the Prosecution, when they arrived at the complainant’s destination in Golf City, Dordzi requested that they exchange phone numbers so that the complainant could call him to pick her up and return her to Kakasunaka Number One when she was finished with her mission.

According to the facts, the complainant complied, and at approximately 00:21 hours on the same day, she called him to pick her up as agreed, adding that on their way, he branched into an unknown road with the excuse that he encountered Police officers on his way to pick her up, thus the need to swerve.

The court heard that Dzidefo veered into a nearby bush and parked at a refuse dump after reaching a section of the road near the Energy Commission in Tema Community 25. He brandished a concealed penknife at the complainant and forcibly took her Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone, worth GHS1,800.00, as well as her handbag, which contained GH200.00, room keys, a handkerchief, and soap.

According to the prosecution, the convict was not satisfied and forced vaginal and anal sex with the complainant at knifepoint at the refuse dump. He fled with the booty after his act, she claimed, abandoning the victim in the bush. The complainant later filed a complaint with Golf City Police, and she was given an extract of the occurrence to Tema Community 25 Police for the necessary assistance and the issuance of a medical form to go to the hospital.

According to the facts, on July 22, 2021, the Police prepared an ex-parte motion for a court order, which was granted and served on MTN Ghana Limited, requiring them to provide an itemised bill of the accused.

Dzidefo inserted his MTN number 0242114906 sim card into the complainant’s Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone on August 25, 2021, between 10:02:59am and 12:06:58pm, according to investigations.

After police intelligence led to his arrest at his hideout at Kakasunanka Number One, he was cautioned, charged, and arraigned.
