One person killed and 11 others are injured after a bus collided with trees

On Holy Saturday, one person was killed and 11 others were injured in an accident in the Western Region.

According to sources, the accident occurred when a vehicle transporting members of the Takoradi-based Unique Masqueraders Club crashed into some trees by the roadside on the Agona Nkwanta road in an attempt to avoid colliding with a truck.

The Masqueraders club allegedly organised a health walk in Takoradi, following which members underwent a health screening exercise.

Members of the New Amanful branch in Takoradi also took part in the exercise.

Following the exercise, some members of the New Amanful branch decided to travel to Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality to join their colleagues in officially launching the club’s Agona Nkwanta branch.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver who was transporting the club members was speeding.

“A driver had overtaken him, and he wanted to overtake that driver, so he crashed into some trees by the roadside to avoid a head-on collision with a truck,” an eyewitness claimed.

According to the eyewitness, the bus was damaged beyond repair. The deceased’s body was taken to the Effia Nkwanta hospital mortuary.

The injured were also taken to the hospitals in Effia Nkwanta and Kwesimintsim for treatment. Six of the injured people have been treated and released.
