FIFA has announced that only 12 Ghanaian journalists will be given media accreditation to cover the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
According to the spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, statistics given at a workshop in Doha has it that Ghanaian journalists have performed poorly in terms of coverage in the three editions the country have participated in.
He explained that most Ghanaian journalists only focus on the Black stars at the global showpiece following the directives given to them by their employees hence the below-par output by reporters.
“Ghanaian media were given only 12 slots for the World Cup courage. 10 accreditation slots for written press and 2 for photographers.
Media coverage from Ghanaian journalists in our previous World Cups was poor. FIFA has allocated only 12 accreditations for Ghanaian press,” he intimated in an interview on Asempa FM.
Asante Twum revealed that a personal plea for the increment of slots for Ghanaian journalists proved futile.
“I met the head of media for Qatar World cup 2022 and informed him that there is high demand for accreditation for Ghanaian journalists, however, he said sorry, that is what we can do for your country”. He concluded.
