Over 600,000 students will begin the weeklong Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today, August 7, 2023.
They are 300,323 boys and 300,391 females from 18,993 schools around the country.
This year’s applicants are the final cohort of students to take the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which has been running for almost 30 years.
A new test will be conducted for the first cohort of Junior High School students in 2024, according to a revised curriculum adopted in 2019.
Students will take their Junior High School leaving test in 2024, which will be based on the new Standard-based curriculum.
This implies that in 2024, a new BECE will be introduced, ushering in a new age of assessing pupils.
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers, on the other hand, is calling for a clear roadmap for the forthcoming Standard-based Curriculum Examination.
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers’ Director of Communications, Adokwei Ayikwie Awule, stated, “We will need a clear path on the Standard-based Curriculum Examination.”
In a statement issued on August 3, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) warned candidates taking the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination not to engage in malpractices or any other act of misconduct that might jeopardise their goals and objectives.
