The woman at the centre of R. Kelly’s legal troubles for more than two decades has testified in court on Thursday, August 18.

According to her, the R&B singer has slept with her ‘hundreds’ of times before she turned 18 years old, starting when she was just 15.

The now 37-year-old woman, with the pseudonym Jane, has been pivotal to the child pornography and obstruction of justice charges against the singer. She told the court that in the late 1990s when she was 13, she asked the Grammy award-winning singer to be her godfather because she saw him as a mentor.

According to her, a few weeks after, R Kelly started calling her to say sexual things. She said the ‘Trap In The Closet’ singer first touched her breasts when she was around 14 at a Chicag recording studio, and that around that time, he ‘started penetration’ at his North Side Chicago home.

Jane further revealed that she was 15 years old when she first had intercourse with the now 55-year who was around 30 years old at the time. “Sometimes, they would have sex with other teenage girls she would recruit at Kelly’s request” she testified,

With Jane’s Thursday testimony, R Kelly stands charged in Chicago federal court with enticing minors for sex, producing child pornography and rigging his 2008 pornography trial. Lawyers for the alleged victim allege that R. Kelly also paid off and threatened Jane and her family to ensure that she didn’t testify at a similar 2008 trial.

Accordingly, she didn’t testify and R Kelly was ultimately acquitted. Presently, the American singer is serving a 30-year prison sentence for his conviction in a New York court earlier this year on other federal charges alleging he used his fame to sexually abuse fans over several decades.

Commenting on her meeting R Kelly was like to her at that time, she said “It made me feel happy that such a successful person was saying I was gifted, so I was excited,”. Testifying to the Chicago Tribune, she said her aunt then advised her to ask Kelly to be her godfather. According to her, her aunt said “I should sit on his lap and rub his head and ask him to play that role in my life“.

But soon the relationship became sexual. In at least one case, WGN-TV reports her to have recounted that R Kelly asked her what was the colour of her underwear and told her he was pleasuring himself as they spoke.

It is reported that Kelly gave her alcohol for the first time when she was 14 and Jane began drinking heavily. “It would help me loosen up, kind of take me away from the moment,” she said.

From there, Jane said, they would have intercourse in Kelly’s home on West George Street, at his Near West Side recording studio, on tour buses and in hotels. Asked how many times they had sex before she turned 18, she answered quietly: “Uncountable times…hundreds“.

Unlike at the 2008 trial, Jane is now cooperating with prosecutors and is a pivotal witness.

"We recognise that the language of the message may have been inappropriate, and we accept the concerns highlighted. "It was not our intention to cause any harm, and we value and respect the contributions and rights of individuals with disabilities in our society," he said in a statement. Sammy Flex stated that the Shatta Movement is devoted to fostering diversity and understanding. "We pledge to be more aware of our words and deeds in the future. "Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your understanding," he said. Shatta Wale chastised Stonebwoy for missing the much-anticipated Fadama Sallah Fest.

The Shatta Movement Empire has apologised to members of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled after Shatta Wale was caught “mocking” his colleague Stonebwoy’s handicap.

Shatta Wale’s manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, wrote to the GSPD, stating that the ‘kakai’ hitmaker had no intention of mocking or denigrating those with disabilities.

Sammy Flex, as he is generally known, stated that his artist’s primary goal was to demonstrate the importance of Stonebwoy respecting others and maintaining correct conduct.

“We recognise that the language of the message may have been inappropriate, and we accept the concerns highlighted.

“It was not our intention to cause any harm, and we value and respect the contributions and rights of individuals with disabilities in our society,” he said in a statement.

In his rage on stage, he used several ‘unprintable’ remarks against Stonebwoy, including mocking his limp, which many people believed were unnecessary even if he had a feud with the ‘Nominate’ singer.

However, a week later, the GSPD denounced Shatta Wale’s conduct as reckless and potentially injurious to the emotional health of the physically impaired.

In a news release, the GSPD stated that they had observed a video circulating on social media in which Shatta Wale mocked Stonebouy’s disabilities.

Shatta Wale claimed in the video, among other nasty things, “You are a bad person, that is why God made you a disabled person; you are a disabled person, don’t try to fight an able person.”

“By making this comment, he is implying that all people with disabilities are terrible because God created us that way. This unsophisticated comment should not have come from a well-known figure like Shatta Wale,” the statement stated.

The group urged Shatta Wale to apologise to the community and take steps to remove the insulting videos from social media networks.

Furthermore, one singer, Bosheba De Shyne, voiced disgust at Shatta Wale following his words on the Sallahfest stage.

The musician with a handicap stated that he did not think it was appropriate for an artist he admires to weaponize his impairment by insulting a colleague.

Meanwhile, the GSPD issued a fresh press statement acknowledging Shatta Wale and his team’s apologies.

“We accept the apology and appreciate their commitment to promoting inclusivity, as there is a need for all of us to work together and create a more inclusive environment for all, regardless of disabilities.”

“We’d also like to use this occasion to thank everyone in the disability community for their patience and all stakeholders for their support. “Let us remember that disability can strike anyone at any time,” they said.
