Reports: Hearts of Oak have appointed Dutch coach Rene Hiddink as new Technical Director

According to Opoku Afriyie (Pkay) of Kumasi FM, Ghana Premier League heavyweights Hearts of Oak have hired Dutch coach Rene Hiddink as their new Technical Director.

The experienced coach, who is the brother of former Chelsea and Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink, has already signed the contract and will oversee the Phobians’ technical team.

Hearts of Oak are keen to bounce back and compete for the championship in the following season, seeking to dethrone Medeama, after finishing 12th in the Ghana Premier League in 2022/23. Recognising the need to strengthen their technical department, the club’s administration decided to bring in the seasoned Dutch international.

Rene Hiddink, 68, brings a plethora of football expertise and experience to the table. He began his professional football career at De Graafschap in Holland, where he shared the pitch with his brother, Guus Hiddink. After that, he moved into teaching, spending nearly five years as an assistant coach with FC Dordrecht in Holland.

Although the Board of Directors, chaired by Togbe Afede XIV, has yet to publicly announce the news, insiders say the new Technical Director’s appointment is forthcoming.

Rene Hiddink is slated to start with Hearts of Oak on August 1, 2023, and his presence is considered as a critical complement to the team’s objectives.
