Robbers rob a cemetery and destroy a grave as they exhume Albino's buried body

Authorities in Mozambique have launched an investigation into the theft of the body of an albino who died and was buried recently.

According to the BBC, the strange incident occurred in the Tete province’s Moatize area, in the country’s western region of eastern Africa.

The robbers allegedly dug through concrete used to reinforce the grave before stealing pieces of the corpse.

According to reports, the 50-year-old deceased was recently laid to rest in a Malawian community. His relatives reinforced the grave with concrete to deter theft, but the move backfired.

The incident has sparked outrage, with advocates for albinos urging Mozambican police to launch an immediate investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The cemetery is off by itself. Remane Madane, an advocate for albinism, is quoted by the BBC as saying, “To get there, it’s a great journey; you have to think twice about going alone, else, maybe a team [was engaged].”

Albino people, who lack pigment in their skin and appear pale, are hunted and slain for ritual purposes in several African countries, including Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

Some people in those African countries believe that using albinos’ body parts in witchcraft increases the power of their black magic. Another strange myth holds that albinos cannot feel free to move around, particularly in remote areas, because albinos’ body parts are taken and used in rituals, causing businesses to thrive.
