Two police officers have been charged with failing to rescue a colleague who was attacked by thugs on April 7, 2023, at the Wono Akotsosu snap checkpoint in the Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.
The “two police officers No. 58741 G/Constable Isaac Boiatey and No.61963 G/Constable Evans Owusu who were on duty with the attacked officer have been interdicted for their apparent failure to rescue their colleague, subdue the attackers, and get them arrested and have thus been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for an investigation into their professional conduct,” according to a Police statement.
In the meantime, six people have been arrested for assaulting a police officer.
The suspects, Edward Boateng, Evans Addo, Yaw Kusi, Michael Owusu, Yaw Boateng, and Emmanuel Mensah, together with one other suspect who is presently on the run, came up in a taxi cab at the checkpoint, according to the police.
One of the three Police officers on duty at the checkpoint saw the taxi, which was overcrowded with seven male adults. As a result, he pulled over and requested that the automobile be searched.
However, in an attempt to prevent the officer from searching the car, the suspects pounced on him and aggressively attacked him.
Six of the suspects were apprehended by a police reinforcement squad responding to the event, and efforts are being made to apprehend the last suspect.
The attacked officer, who suffered a knee injury, and one of the suspects, who also suffered injuries, were both sent to the hospital for treatment.
