WAFA have withdrawn from the Division One League to concentrate on youth development

The West African Football Academy Sporting Club (WAFA SC) has formally informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of its intention to resign from the Access Bank Division One League.

The club’s decision is ascribed, among other things, to a strategy move towards a focused concentration on cultivating future football prospects through the Volta Region of Ghana’s academy system.

As a result of this event, the GFA’s Executive Council will use its jurisdiction under Article 78 of the GFA Statutes to choose a substitute for WAFA in the Access Bank Division One League, Zone 2, as defined by previous precedents.

WAFA SC’s withdrawal should be taken seriously by all stakeholders and teams in Division One League Zone 2.

WAFA has produced several players who have gone on to play for some of Africa’s and Europe’s premier clubs.

Harrison Afful, Christian Atsu (dead), Majeed Ashimeru, Lassana Coulibaly, Mohammed Abubakari, Samuel Tetteh, and many more are notable among these players.
