Weija dam spillage: 7 schoolchildren drown

On Wednesday, seven schoolchildren drowned after a boat carrying largely pupils overturned near Faana in Accra’s Weija Gbawe town.

The incident occurred at 5 p.m., when the youngsters were going home from school, according to Clement Agyi, Assemblyman for McCarthy South.

According to reports, the boat transporting the youngsters sank due to the spilling of the Weija Dam.

The remains of seven children have been recovered from the Wiaboman River, although the precise number of youngsters on the boat is unknown.

Rescue attempts are still underway.
