West Ham youngster Armstrong Okoflex has opened up on how Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg helped convert him into a winger.
Okoflex actually played for Arsenal as a youngster before joining Celtic in 2018.
The 20-year-old Hammers owned attacker joined Swansea City on a season-long loan at the end of last month.
He is very highly-rated at the London Stadium, and a successful season in the Championship with Swansea would do him the world of good.
Okoflex dominated at under-23 level for West Ham last season but nothing compares to regular football at senior level.
This season will show us just how good the Dublin-born youngster is.
He is certainly a really exciting player and should flourish in the Championship.
The 20-year-old has opened up on how he has a former Arsenal star to thank for his development as a youngster…
West Ham youngster Armstrong Okoflex tips his hat to Arsenal great
The Swansea loanee spoke to the Welsh side’s official website, and responded when asked about his early days in the game:
“Going to Arsenal was huge for me. It was great there. I was a striker and then Freddie Ljungberg recognised that I could be direct and take players on and he felt I could operate on the flank. He really changed me and the way I play, and I am very grateful to him for that. He was great.”
Freddie Ljungberg was a great player for Arsenal and excelled playing down the right wing.
The Swede bagged 72 goals and 37 assists in 327 games for Arsenal (Transfermarkt). If anyone knows how to operate effectively out wide it’s Ljungberg.
Hopefully Armstrong Okoflex goes on to have a long and illustrious career with West Ham.
If he’s half as successful as Freddie, he’ll be just fine.
