According to multiple users on Tuesday morning, the messaging service WhatsApp has been down since shortly after 7 a.m. in Ghana and other countries. Down Detector, a prominent online tool began noticing unusually high “problem reports” and had listed thousands of such reports. Most reports (69%) were about messages not being delivered, while others reported server disconnections and the app crashing completely.
Users on social media in Kenya, India, Italy, and Turkey also reported being unable to send messages. Some WhatsApp mobile and desktop users cannot send messages to groups and only receive one tick on their private messages.
The company stated that it is working to restore it.
“We’re aware that some people are currently experiencing difficulties sending messages, and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as soon as possible,” said a spokesperson for Meta. This company also owns Facebook and Instagram in addition to WhatsApp.
