Ato Kwamina Otoo, affectionately known as D’Gem, has been adjudged Entertainment Show Host of the Year at the Western Music Awards (WMA 2022).
The astute entertainment journalist, since taking over as host of the Connect Entertainment Review show 4 years ago, has been nominated each year in the award scheme.
In an interview on the sidelines of the Western Music Awards, D’Gem explained that the award comes off an intentional agenda to discuss news concerning creatives in and from the Western Region.
He urged colleague presenters and DJs to give prominence to creative actors in the Western Region, as they win when the musicians, actors, and film makers win.
The colourful event saw performances from legendary Shasha Marley and Amy Newman.
Other performers include Keche, Kweysi Swat and Snow B, among other.
Aya Ramzy B won Artiste of the Year. He also picked 3 other awards – Hiplife Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year and best Regional Song of the Year awards.
Keenly following him was Kweysi Swat who won 3 on the night – Highlife Song of the Year (In Your Hands), Song Writer of the Year and Highlife Artiste of the Year.
Gospel musician Ruth Ackaah Gyasi won New Artiste of the Year. She also got a free video shoot for her song ‘Abandenden’.
