Kofi Manu, an experienced football administrator, has expressed doubts regarding Kurt E.S Okraku’s eligibility to run for President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the upcoming elections.
Manu’s comments came in the wake of a petition detailing claims against Okraku that was apparently forwarded to twenty-four institutions, including FIFA.
Manu criticised Okraku’s leadership and raised reservations about his prospective candidature in the forthcoming elections on Kumasi-based Fox FM.
Manu referred to the occurrences that occurred at the Kumasi Congress and expressed his concern that if Okraku’s actions were driven by a desire for re-election, he would not be able to compete in the next GFA Presidential elections.
“Look at how he is destroying Ghana football.” Consider what occurred in the Kumasi Congress. Let me promise you that if Kurt is doing all of this because he wants to run for re-election, he may not be one of the candidates in the upcoming GFA presidential elections,” Kofi Manu stated.
Kofi Manu cited alleged ethical violations such as Okraku’s alleged inconsistent name, the appointment of his sister at Prampram, and the appointment of Dreams FC’s general manager as the Black Stars’ Team Manager, which he claimed violated FIFA’s Code of Ethics regarding the appointment of relatives. Okraku’s days as GFA President, according to Manu, were numbered.
“In Ghana, we have laws. I’ve seen the petition against the GFA president, and I can assure you that something major is about to occur. He does not have a consistent name, his sister works at Prampram, Dreams FC’s general manager has been appointed as Team Manager of the Black Stars, and the FIFA Code of Ethics states that family should not be appointed. These are ethical violations, and you believe he will survive? “His days are clearly numbered,” said the senior football executive.
The charges levelled against Okraku, as well as his subsequent reaction, point to a tight situation around his leadership and probable re-election attempt for the GFA presidency. Further advancements and explanations are required.
