‘Unethical and unethical,’ says family of deceased Krachi East MCE about media coverage

The family of the late Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East, Francis Kofi Okesu, has expressed dissatisfaction with media coverage about his demise.

They have condemned as ‘unprofessional’ and ‘unethical’ media reports as the family mourns the late MCE.

In a statement signed by a family member and other conveners, including the MCE’s personal assistant, they urge the public to reject the reports until police and health professionals uncover the facts surrounding Francis Kofi Okesu’s death.

The late MCE’s family emphasised that he was sober, diligent, and a devout Christian.

“We the family were shocked at some reportage emanating from the media. We are very confident in the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Health Service of conducting an independent investigation and publishing autopsy report to unravel what actually led to his death. Until such a report is released by these professional institutions of the state, any media story should be disregarded and considered unprofessional and unethical,” the statement read.

The deceased MCE was discovered dead in a hotel room in Kumasi on Sunday, after checking in on Friday, September 2.

His body was discovered naked and recumbent, with his left arm hanging beside the bed.

A thorough assessment of the deceased by medical personnel revealed no signs of violence.

The deceased’s body was later deposited to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.

The Ashanti Regional Command has begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the MCE’s death, underlining that it will do everything possible to determine the cause of his death.
