Alan Kyerematen, a former trade and industry minister, became the first contestant to submit his full paperwork to run for the presidency of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday (12 June).
The papers were accepted by Evans Nimako, the NPP’s director of elections, accompanied by numbers of his supporters, including MPs, ministers of state, former and present party leaders, and youth organisations that share his agenda.
Kyerematen stated that his Great Transformational Plan (GTP) will guide Ghana into a new period of stability, progress, and prosperity. He stated that leading the party to a historic triumph in 2024 will be an honour and a privilege.

In January of this year, he resigned as Trade Minister to pursue his presidential ambitions.
Prior to his departure, he was a strong supporter of the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, which has resulted in the establishment of over 170 enterprises around the country.
Kyerematen also served in the same role under the government of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
