Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has vowed to name James Gyakye Quayson as a minister if re-elected.
Mahama delivered the guarantee to Assin North constituents over the weekend, ahead of the area’s by-election on Tuesday, June 27.
“He [Gyake Quayson] is humble, God-fearing, and respectful of all people.” Nothing will prevent me from nominating him as a minister if God grants me the presidency. Look at what he has been able to do in terms of growth even as an opposition MP. “Imagine what he’ll do if he becomes a minister,” Mahama said.
Following the nullification of Mr Quayson’s victory in the 2020 parliamentary election in Assin North, the Electoral Commission arranged a by-election.
After finding the NDC candidate guilty of possessing dual citizenship prior to filing to contest the 2020 elections, the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to erase Gyakye Quayson’s name from its records.
Mr Quayson was later nominated for the by-election by the National Democratic Congress.
