Immigration officer killed in Bawku; two others critically injured

An immigration officer was killed in the Upper East Region town of Bawku.

Two other officers are in critical condition at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

The three immigration officers were driving from Bawku to Missiga when their vehicle was shot at by unknown gunmen, killing Philip Motey, 42.

The incident happened on April 3, 2023. There has yet to be an arrest.

The reason why the immigration vehicle was shot at by unknown gunmen on its way to the Missiga station in Bawku is unknown.

Eric Ayibiya, 30, and Laurence Afri, 42, the other two officers, were shot multiple times and are being treated at the Bawku Presbyterian hospital.

In another development, on Monday, unknown gunmen assassinated Imoro Bello, a yellow-yellow tricycle operator.

Some residents blamed the killings on the long-running ethnic conflict between the Bawku.
